1) Protect it.
We are not a specialist removals company, we are a delivery company.
Wrap and protect all items as though you were posting them.
We carry protective blankets but overall protection & insurance of goods is YOUR
responsibility.
2) Dismantle it.
Dismantle any large pieces of furniture,
this makes things
easier to handle, saves space and therefore saves money.
Don't forget you can pack drawers as well to save space, but don't make items
too heavy to handle.
Take peddles of bicycles. Wrap everything that needs protecting.
3) Box it.
Boxes are neat and stackable, again saving space & money but make
sure YOU can lift them.
If they are too heavy they will CRUSH in transit so
mix heavy items
such as books with items like pillows.
We can "cage" your items more easily for safety in transit if they stack neatly.
4) Pack it well.
Fill up boxes with clothes etc to stop loose items from moving
about and to stop boxes from collapsing.
Don't worry too
much about emptying chests of drawers either if they mainly contain clothes,
it
saves you time - and ironing at the other end.
5) Label it.
Labels on boxes make life easier later.
For your own convenience if you know what each box contains you will save time
and mess unpacking.
6) Tape it.
Tape all doors, parts, flaps etc securely.
Anything that moves freely can get broken easily, help yourself by keeping it
secure.
Any long loose items like bed slats or garden
tools should be gathered together and taped
and then any sharp edges, shielded with card and tape.
7) Clean it.
Fridges, freezers, ovens etc need to be clean when transported and
can then be packed to maximise space.
Dust tops of
wardrobes and wall units etc. It makes it cleaner for us to carry them and saves
you work on delivery.
8) Drain it.
Washing machines & dishwashers can leak onto YOUR items.
Drain and dry them thoroughly, don't use them for a few days prior to
transportation.
We cannot take paint, fuel, flammable liquids or hazardous chemicals.
Fuel from motorcycles and generators etc must be emptied prior to
removal.
9) Hang it
Place
hanging garments together & pull a black bin bag over them, making a small hole
for the hanger hook to come through.
This saves you spending a money on wardrobe boxes and we can then hang the items
in the van.
10) THINK!!
Potted plants take
up a lot of floor space and wastes the space above.
Don't take them unless
really necessary,
and even then maybe put them in tins for re-planting later.
